Home Grown – Heather McMahon

Hello again!
Want to know what I’ve been up to? I’ve been playing! I had a Dusty Attic chippie that I wanted to use, but I wanted to make it somehow different. So I did what any self-respecting scrapper would do – I hacked into it with a pair of scissors! Now don’t get me wrong, the chippie was gorgeous to start with. I just wanted to make it more ‘me’!
Here’s the chippie:

This is called the String of Hearts Frame Set (DA 1017). It’s an older chippie but definitely a goodie! I used the larger, outside piece.
And here’s what I made with it:

I cut the frame up into smaller sections then used these to form an incomplete circle. I didn’t use all of the chipboard piece – I still have some hearts left for another project. This technique also allowed me to shrink the circle down to suit my layout better.
The title is made from two different alpha chippies – Typewriter ABC set (DA 0143) and Dusty Curls ABC Set (DA 0468). I painted them with Dusty in Colour paints in Oceania, Faded Denim and Sunshine. I added hearts from the mini Hearts # 2 set (DA 0990). The mixed shapes in this set make it a fave of mine.
To make my background, I cut out eight circle segments from scrap papers (this is a fabulous way to use up scraps!) and machine stitched them into place. I layered on some paper twine to form a few more circles to use under the chippies.
I added coordinating papers on the hearts and stitched around them to match the stitched background. Yes, it was slow work but worth it! I let the threads hang loose and they formed a beautiful cascading effect down the hearts.
Don’t forget, the winner of the August challenge will win a
$100 Dusty Attic voucher!
