Today I present a card made to order on the occasion of a 40th birthday for a woman who loves lions. When I heard the expectations from the client I knew almost immediately what to do with it. It’s not always so easy for me to design the artwork, so I’m even more pleased about that. With the colour scheme I was helped by the ongoing moodboard challenge on the Dusty Attic‘s blog – totally awesome for me! The base is a beige DL cardoard, distress-covered, and I’ve also distressed most of the elements to meet another client’s wish for a vintage-style card. On the first layer of decorative paper you can see some washi tape, which sticks out from under the corrugated cardboard. I like this touch in my scrapbooking work, so some time ago I stocked up on whole sheets, which you can also find in the Dusty Attic shop.
On top of the aforementioned corrugated cardboard, I laid out a messy ragged and torn turquoise paper, which I had previously embossed with a 3D embossing folder from Sizzix, giving a fantastic brick pattern. In several places, I chaotically stamped it with numbers, and at the bottom I placed the inscription: “live in the now and make every moment count”.
The focal point is an absolutely brilliant and decorative frame with the image of a lion. This frame, as well as every other element on the work, is glued with beermat for a 3D effect. I try to glue the cardboard so that it is not too visible when looking at the work from the side or from a greater angle. It annoys me when the cardboard is visible, so sometimes I even colour it in to make it less visible.
Accompanying the frame are some beautiful coffee fabric flowers that I received a while back from Dominika Karta Wstępu – a fellow artist. Talented girl she is, I have a few more from her, so you will see them on more works soon. I decorated the flowers with ribbons from Old Fashion Ribbons, a piece of string, ragged gauze underneath and thin strips of corrugated cardboard.
There could be no shortage of additions to give a personalised touch, i.e. inscriptions matched to the person who receives the card. Thus, we have two inscriptions combined into one thought: “wild and free – You’re the best Gosia” as well as the number 40 at the top and the “birthday” in polish. A crackle effect can be seen all over the work, which is the result of applying paste from Stamperia. The composition is enriched in several places with colourless cabochons, and at the top – as always – a hanging ribbon.
